The Ford Ranger PX2, released in 2015, marked a major facelift of the original PX platform. It brought modernised styling, upgraded safety systems, improved interior comfort and revised engine tuning.

The PX2 quickly became one of Australia’s top-selling utes due to its strong 3.2L and 2.2L diesel options, excellent towing capability and broad model range including XL, XLS, XLT and Wildtrak.

PX2 Ranger Engines & Driveline

The PX2 carried over the proven 3.2L and 2.2L turbo diesel engines but with refinements to improve NVH, fuel economy and driveability. The 6R80 automatic transmission received internal updates and calibration changes.

3.2L Turbo Diesel (P5AT)

  • 147kW / 470Nm;
  • Strong in Wildtrak and XLT models;
  • Popular for towing and touring;
  • Known for EGR and intake-soot related issues.

2.2L Turbo Diesel (P4AT)

  • Found in XL and XLS;
  • Common fleet vehicle;
  • Good economy and reliability;
  • Some injector and DPF-related issues.

🔄 PX2 Ranger Parts Interchangeability

While the PX2 is an evolution of the PX1, many components do not interchange due to the facelift, upgraded electronics and revised engine calibrations. Some driveline components have partial compatibility. Doors hardware is styled differently but door bodies are the same. Most body mouldings and interior parts are PX2-specific.

  • Engines: Mostly PX2-specific due to updated sensors and ECU mapping, however the main engine block is virtually the same for PX1, PX2 & PX3;

  • Transmissions: 6R80 interchangeable with PX3 in many cases;

  • Panels: PX2 front panels do not interchange with PX1 or PX3. Doors have some interchangeability;

  • Interior: PX2 interior is unique; some trims cross over;

  • Modules: BCM/PCM mostly PX2-specific.
