Ford Ranger Airbag Recall: Is Your 2026 Ranger Affected?
Ford Australia has announced a safety recall covering 13,907 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles due to a potential problem involving the side-curtain airbags and the interior trim fitted to the B-pillar.
The recall applies to certain MY2026 and MY2026.5 Rangers manufactured between 26 November 2025 and 10 July 2026.
If you own a recently built Ranger, it is worth checking your VIN even if you have not yet received a letter or notification from Ford.
What is the problem?
The concern relates to the interaction between the side-curtain airbag and part of the B-pillar trim.
The B-pillar is the upright section of the vehicle body located between the front and rear doors. Ford has identified that, in some circumstances, the side-curtain airbag may contact the trim as it inflates during a crash.
This could prevent the airbag from deploying as intended or cause part of the B-pillar trim assembly to detach, increasing the risk of injury to occupants.
Ford says the issue was discovered during routine vehicle testing and that it is not aware of any incidents involving customer vehicles in Australia.
Which Ford Rangers are affected?
The recall covers selected:
- MY2026 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles
- MY2026.5 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles
- Vehicles built from 26 November 2025 to 10 July 2026
Approximately 8,000 of the affected Rangers have already been delivered to customers. The remaining vehicles are reportedly still in dealer stock and have been placed under a temporary delivery and demonstration hold.
A vehicle’s model year or registration date alone will not confirm whether it is affected. The safest approach is to check the individual VIN.
Can affected Rangers still be driven?
Ford has advised that owners can continue using their vehicles while waiting for the recall repair.
The company says the Ranger’s other airbags—including the driver, passenger, centre, knee and side-thorax airbags—will continue to operate as designed.
However, owners should still arrange the recall work when contacted or once the repair becomes available.
What will Ford do?
Ford will replace the affected components of the B-pillar trim free of charge through its authorised dealer network.
The required parts are expected to become available from mid-September 2026. Ford intends to contact affected owners with instructions once repairs can be booked.
Because this is an official safety recall, the inspection and repair should be completed by an authorised Ford dealer. Owners should not attempt to modify or replace the trim themselves.
How to check your Ranger
You can check whether your vehicle has an outstanding recall by entering its VIN into the Ford Australia Recall and Service Action Lookup.
Your VIN can normally be found:
- At the bottom of the windscreen on the passenger side
- On the vehicle’s compliance or identification label
- On your registration papers
- In your insurance or finance documents
